Hall & Shantz ;  Sarah Hall

This inspiring and uncommonly beautiful book for prayer and meditation presents in contemporary words and images an interpretation of some of the earliest examples of Christian expression.

Using stained glass, award-winning artist Sarah Hall explores the religious imagery found in the catacombs of Rome. Here persecuted early Christians used simple illustrations to depict their faith of living "in glad confidence in the love of God."

Using prayerful, meditative words, Bob Schantz further interprets Hall's art as well as the original story it is based on. The result of this collaboration is a book of wonder and silent reflection.

SARAH HALL is one of North America's best-known stained glass artists. Her work has received numerous awards for outstanding liturgical art from the Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture and Ministry and Liturgy. These include several International First Place "Bene Awards" Outstanding Liturgical Art and Honour Awards from the American Institute of Architects. She was recently elected into membership of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art. Her previous book, The Color of Light: Commissioning Stained Glass for a Church, published by the Archdiocese of Chicago, is the first book of its kind in the field. Sarah has established her studio in Toronto and keeps a busy international schedule with lectures, exhibitions and projects.

BOB SCHANTZ is an ordained Lutheran pastor. Active in multi-faith chaplaincy, he has also designed and facilitated workshops with a variety of artists. His "Art and the Spirit" Sunday worship services bring singers, dancers, musicians, storytellers, painters and stained glass artists to lead the congregation and inspire them with their Spirit-filled art.
